Silver Medal Winner, 2017 PubWest Book Design Awards
For this book on classic quilting techniques for a modern audience, my photography concept focused on the theme of workshops & studios. I designed bright contemporary sewing studio sets to complement the geometric quilting designs. My goal for the book’s interior design was to present a wealth of information in a clear, easy-to-follow, attractive way, with a strong hierarchy, fresh bold colors, and modern fonts.
New Lace Knitting
Cover design | Interior design & layout
For this book design project, I took inspiration from the beautiful nature-focused photography as well as the “wide open spaces” subtitle. I created clean and modern layouts with plenty of white space to let the photography shine. I incorporated additional natural imagery throughout the front and back matter to reflect the bright, outdoorsy feel of the project photography.
Urban Knit Collection
Photo Shoot Art Direction
My concept for this photo shoot was modern, urban, and architecture-inspired. We shot on streets, sidewalks, and alleyways to emphasize the about-town vibe and explored unique outdoor spots to create an interesting and cohesive story throughout the photography.
Quilt Giving

I focused on color and simplicity to support the approachable quilt designs in this book. My photography concept is centered around the gift-worthy aspect of the finished pieces. The interior design is cheery, friendly, and comfortable, with rounded fonts and bright colors. I incorporated gift tag elements to tie in with the title theme of making quilts for the purpose of gifting.
Weekend Wraps
PHoto shoot art direction
To showcase this book’s upscale country casual knitwear, I started with the concept of a weekend on the family estate. Styling is informal but elevated, poses are relaxed, settings are rustic-chic. Shot on location in Evergreen, Colorado.
Custom Socks
Cover design | Interior design & layout
The goal of this book’s design was to feel technical and authoritative, yet easy to digest. I used elements of technical manuals, case studies, and physical file folders of collected information. Color blocks provide easy visual navigation.
Perfectly feminine knits
Cover design | Interior design & layout
I took inspiration from the bright, delicate, feminine photography for this book’s design. I used a minimalist design to convey a subtle Scandinavian aesthetic, along with lots of white space to create an airy, modern feel and complement the project photography. I used soft colors, floral-inspired icons, and thin, delicate lines to add touches of femininity.
